Orange County Commissioners’ Court to Hold Public Hearing on Property Tax Increase

The Orange County Commissioners’ Court will be holding a public hearing on a potential increase in property taxes for the 2024 fiscal year.
According to the County, the proposed rate is greater than the “no-new-revenue rate” and is considered a tax increase under the rules adopted by the 86th Texas Legislature. The new proposed rate is $.5220 per $100 (the current rate is $.5320 per $100), the County would need to set the rate at $.4695 per $100 for it not to be considered a tax increase.
Since the new rate does not meet or exceed $.6108 per $100, the county does not need to hold an election to seek voter approval of the rate.
The current rate potentially raised $38,883,176 for 2023 and the new rate will raise $43,130,851. The new rate will also increase the average tax by $74.75 a year in county taxes.
The public hearing will be held Tuesday morning at 10 AM at 123 S 6th Street and is open to the public.
The Court will also discuss the proposed FY2024 Budget
