Personal information, including social security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and other personal information was accessible online by the public for three years.

This is according to an audit just released by the Texas Department of Insurance. The TDI is the state agency that oversees the insurance industry in Texas and is responsible for enforcing Texas insurance regulations.

The data breach was in the Worker’s Compensation portion of their website. According to the TDI, the issue stems from a programming code in TDI’s web application that manages the Worker’s Compensation data.

The code, the Department contends, allowed the public to access the protected part of the online application.

The breach was discovered during a regularly scheduled data audit when it was discovered.

According to the TDI, they have sent out letters to the affected individuals to notify them of the ‘incident.’
