ORANGE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY VIOLATIONS

On May 17, 2021, federal agents issued a search warrant at the residence of Joshua Welch in Orange.

According to information presented in court, in April 2021, federal agents in Beaumont received information from federal agents in Syracuse, NY, regarding an internet user who had uploaded images containing child pornography and sent them to another user. An investigation had determined the initial sender of the material was in Orange, Texas.

Welch admitted to producing child pornography images and downloading. He also admitted to visiting other internet websites to view images of child pornography.

Today he has been sentenced to 240 months for the production of child pornography

OFISD Teacher Named UIL 15 Best in Texas

Congratulations to OrangeField High School Teacher, Misty Bellard.

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has named her as one of its 15 of the best UIL sponsors in Texas as the 2021 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award winners.

According to the UIL,

During her 23 years as an academic coach, Misty Bellard has had 19 total students qualify for the Computer Applications State Contest, with two of them winning a state championship. She has coached students in Accounting, Spelling, and Vocabulary, and was a basketball, softball, and volleyball coach. Bellard has been the UIL Academic Coordinator for Orangefield High School for the past 15 years. She has hosted four District Debate Meets and the District Academic Meet twice.

Yesterday, the Orangefield Bobcats beat Lumberton 6-1 in varsity baseball.

In more baseball news, The Orangefield Bobcats are now ranked 31st in UIL overall High School Ball while Bridge City has jumped to 53.

City of Orange to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Tax Increase

The City of Orange is holding a public hearing on 29 August 2023 at 5:30 PM at the Orange City Council Chambers at the Orange Public Library.

According to the notice, the proposed tax increase is under the amount that would require voter approval.

 

The public is invited to voice their support or opposition to the proposed tax rate at the hearing

Vidor Tennis racks up 1st District Win of Season

The Vidor Pirates posted their first district win yesterday. They hosted the Lumberton Raiders and won 12-7 which brings their district record to 1-1.

Boy singles were Bryce Loftin, Jose Guerrero, Lane Mathues, Gideon Rowe, Jordan Goodman, and Austin Gibbs.
We had two girls win their matches, Katie Hanks and Claire Fawcett.
Up next, the Pirates will be traveling to Crosby on Friday. Some of our Pirates will be taking the night off of tennis to participate in Friday Night Lights, so we will have some “newbies” stepping up and taking their place. This is a great opportunity for them! Can’t wait to see what they can do.
