Over the weekend, the OJH Lady Bobcats participated in the PNG Spikefest Tournament.

8th grade’s first opponent for pool play was C.O Wilson. The leading server for the match was Paisley Reeves, with 19 total serves- 9 being aces. The Bobcats took the Pups down in two sets. Next up, were the Braves of Groves. Leading in defense, was Eliese Gravett with 8 serve-receives and 5 digs. Attacks were well spread throughout the players, giving a solid team win for the second set. Friday night action ended with the Short Horns of Hamshire Fannett. Ava Walker and Mikayla Locke stepped up big, connecting 14 attacks together. The Bobcats took down Hamshire Fannett in two sets.

Saturday morning play started against the Cardinals of Bridge City. Mikayla Locke single-handedly had 15 total serves which put the Cards on their heels early. Ava Walker again, led in kills, while Madison McCormack and Paisley Reeves rounded out the serving action with vital contributions.

Next up, was Central, who stood in the way of the Championship. Leading the charge were our outside hitters, connecting over and over again. McCormack led the first set in assists. The Bobcats defeated the Canines in two sets, 25-9 and 25-17.

The championship game was set for a rematch with Groves. The first set was an intense back and forth with both sides doing well. The Bobcats got themselves in a hole, facing a 23-18 deficit.

After the timeout, the Bobcats played team volleyball to take over the serve, with Montana Davis displaying the composure athletes dream of. Taking the sails from the Braves, the Cats made a comeback to take the first set 23-25.

Lainey Maricle had a great showing behind the line, securing nine total serves, while Brenna Lee led in kills with six.

Down to the wire, the second set went neck and neck. The Bobcats fell 26-24 after Groves had some impressive attacks. Those attacks continued into the third set where the Cats were left taking second place to a talented Groves team.
