A stout defense and an efficient offense propelled the Orangefield JV Bobcats to a 20-8 road win over the Tarkington Longhorns.
The Bobcat defense stopped the Longhorn’s offense on 4 straight downs to start the game. The Bobcat offense marched down the field and scored with 4:27 in the 1st quarter.
Ashton Sumrall scored the 1-yard touchdown then Carson Worthy added the 2-point conversion run to give the Bobcats an 8-0 lead.
In the 2nd quarter, the Bobcats would get a big play on a Zach Morrow pass to Colton Michael. Kyler Green would score from 5 yards out to give the Bobcats a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Bobcats would get the ball to start the 3rd quarter. Runs by Sumrall, Green, and Rylan McAlpin led the Bobcats down the field. Sumrall would add his 2nd touchdown of the game with a 17-yard run.
The Bobcats extended the lead to 20-0.
The Longhorns would add a late score to make the final a 20-8 Bobcats win.
The defense was exceptional as Tarkington did not get their first 1st down until late in the 3rd quarter. Defensive standouts were Austin Rickenbrode, Kaleb Menard, Colt Longron, Layne Reynolds, and Caden Knott.
The starting offensive line of Jaxon Briggs, KimTsan, Edgar Bernal, Daniel Wilbur, and Hayden Carroll helped the Bobcat offense move the ball consistently.
The JV Bobcats improved to 7-0 Overall, 3-0 District, and will host the Hardin Hornets next week.
