After several citizens approached Mayor Misty Songe about a new Pirate Ship playground, one may soon become a reality.
According to Mayor Songe, “We actually have a master park plan that the pirate ship was part of so I began pricing it. It looks like we’ll be able to build it plus expand on the original plan all from donations and fundraising money, not tax dollars.”
The Pirate Ship will go in the field next to the library on Bolivar. The city has $3000 in the prior funds and needs to raise another $3000 for the materials. Once the funds are raised the city can set the actual date for the construction to begin.
Terry Turner Construction has volunteered to run the project with the help of volunteers.
If you would like to donate to the project, City Hall will be accepting donations on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm. Southern Lotus Charms is also a place you can drop off your donations. On April 9th, during the Main Street Clean-Up, you can also give Mayor Songe any donations.
If you write a check, write “parks” in the memo.
Mayor Songe adds, “If you or a business donates $250 or more will get a small plaque on the ship.”[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
