The grand reopening of the oldest bar in the area is still on.
It is set for September 23rd from 9 PM to 1 AM featuring the sound of the Joey Ward Band.
However, thanks to the backlog at TABC, that grand reopening will be a BYOB.
It has been a tough week for Billie Jo Campbell, the manager. According to her, the new sign has problems with its lighting and now TABC is slowing her license down.
Says Campbell, ” I didn’t think TABC was going to be running behind because the way they talk that I’d be good the 23rd and then they happen to tell me today take anywhere to 30 to 45 days in that time frame.”
But she is undeterred. this will not stop the grand opening,”everything’s as planned … and it’ll go back to BYOB with the ice chest.”
Campbell is exhausted as she nears the date of the grand reopening but is optimistic. Club 87 had originally opened in 1943 but had been shut down for the past dozen years.
Club 87 is located in the Forest Heights addition on Ivy right off of Highway 87
